River Island and Nedap roll out RFID within seven months

Retailer rolls out RFID to 280 stores after achieving sales increase in first stores

Groenlo, The Netherlands – October 26, 2016

UK-based fashion retailer River Island has selected Nedap for the international roll-out of RFID hard- and software in 280 stores. The roll-out will be completed within a period of only seven months as there is no need for time consuming IT integrations. In this large-scale project, Nedap will be the main contractor responsible for delivering the cloud based software iD Cloud and RFID handheld readers as well as ensuring the quality of the RFID labels on the merchandise.

To prove the business case, River Island first initiated a pilot, which demonstrated that iD Cloud enables a significant increase in stock accuracy and, as a result, an increase in sales due to improved product availability. Jon Wright, Head of Global Loss Prevention & Safety at River Island, explains: “Initially, our total stock accuracy was not where we needed it to be. Upon implementing and trialing iD Cloud, accuracy was raised to 97% for all stores within two weeks and has remained consistent week after week. And even more important, that has achieved us a significant sales increase across all our pilot stores.”

RFID as the omnichannel enabler

“In a world of omnichannel, product availability is king. Therefore, accurate stock data is vital for us to successfully offer omnichannel services to our customers. We are impressed with how advanced iD Cloud is, yet how little IT effort it takes to implement it, which makes adopting RFID extremely easy. This enables us to focus on the most important part right from the start – raising the stock accuracy in all our stores and gaining full control over our inventory through item-level visibility,” commented Jon Wright.

Using RFID, River Island is aiming to significantly raise their in-store stock accuracy which can enable efficient omnichannel services like ship-from-store, Buy Online Return In Store and Buy Online Pickup In Store.

Rob Schuurman, Managing Director at Nedap Retail, added: “We are incredibly proud to be able to announce that River Island sets of their RFID journey with us. The full roll-out to 280 stores will be completed within seven months. This shows how iD Cloud perfectly fits the retail sector’s requirements. The solution is native cloud-based which makes it extremely future-proof, as new features become available continuously. Moreover there is no need for costly and complex software integrations or servers in each store location. This makes it possible to quickly benefit from RFID with the least complexity and upfront investments."
