Ensuring product availability without overstocking using RFID
Ensuring product availability without overstocking using RFID
In this video, Barry van Wijk, Head of Retail Operations Europe and Kristian Braeken, Retail Manager Benelux at G-Star RAW, explain the benefits of RFID to improve daily operations in stores and how it helps them to successfully offer omnichannel services such as ship-from-store.
Kristian Braeken: G-Star as a global brand, we have stores all over the globe on every continent. We’re in the market for a little bit more than 30 years now. There are actually people that have been following us from day one.
Barry van Wijk: I think G-Star customers’ expectations have changed over the last couple of years drastically. People are better prepared, people know what to expect.
So before either entering our website or entering our brick and mortar stores, they know what they are looking for.
Kristian Braeken: So for us, it is really important when a consumer buys something for example online, they click on it, they order it, we have to track this product as soon as possible.
Barry van Wijk: I cannot imagine that retailers are still operating without RFID. I mean, a customer does not really want to wait for a product to be found for longer than 5 minutes.
Kristian Braeken: Since we started to use Nedap, and the Nedap RFID solution, we can actually guarantee, even if we do not have a lot of items from a certain product, that we can get it to a consumer.
Barry van Wijk: So, a client goes online and sees the stock and the availability based on our RFID scans. That same client places an order and picks up the item within an hour after placing the order. By the time that they reach the store, the package is ready for them to be picked up.
Kristian Braeken: The software is easy to use. It just helps us to improve our business on a daily basis.
Barry van Wijk: By using iD Cloud we have a better insight in what we have in our stores in terms of stock. Therefore we also know how to easily merge the stock that we have in our warehouses and use our stores as mini-DCs.
Kristian Braeken: And that is really important nowadays because we produce less stock than we did in the past.
Also for the environment, it is much better if you produce less clothes.
Barry van Wijk: iD Cloud plays a very big role in our expansion plans. New stores are automatically equipped with RFID via iD Cloud and it is something that we could roll out very easily.
So there was not a lot of training involved for the people that needed to use this solution. We showed once, and the people in the stores can use it themselves.
I cannot imagine life without iD Cloud at this moment. I think it really helps us in so many ways. I think it can help us reach that operational excellence that we are striving for.
Kristian Braeken: Whatever the future brings is a mystery for everyone, but with all the technology we are embracing, we are ready to take it on!
I cannot imagine life without iD Cloud at this moment. I think it really helps us in so many ways. I think it can help us reach that operational excellence that we are striving for.
