Superdry signs up for global RFID roll-out with Nedap

Nedap’s leading RFID software platform enables Superdry to unlock omnichannel potential 

Nedap today announces that Superdry has signed up for !D Cloud, Nedap’s leading RFID software platform. This is an important step in the retailer’s omnichannel strategy, with the objective to increase inventory accuracy and align online and physical store sales. The RFID deployment involves more than 200 stores across the globe, with initial focus on the UK, European and US markets.

Long term strategic RFID relationship

Superdry started investigating RFID a few years ago with the ambition of increasing inventory accuracy. This ultimately would lead to better customer experiences in store and online, as the right product would always be available at the right time.
Making inventory information visible through the use of RFID in an intuitive and simple to use technology is a key reason why Superdry are to signing up with Nedap’s !D Cloud. “We have a strong belief in RFID as a core technology and we are convinced this will be a fundamental building block of our strategic direction moving forward” says James Eastwood, implementation manager at Superdry. “In order to best manage our customer offering it is critical that we have an accurate view of store inventory. This allows us to maximize sales floor availability and presents a number of other great omni-channel opportunities. Eliminating the need for investment in physical shielding

Before deploying Nedap’s !D Cloud solution, Superdry was facing a significant financial investment in physical shielding of stock rooms. This was necessary to complete the refill of products from the stock room to the sales floor. During the pilot phase of the RFID project, physical shielding in the form of metallic paint was used. This still led to significant bleed, forcing store staff to reduce the read power on the handheld device. “We couldn’t increase the read power of the handheld any further, as this would lead to unwanted detection of items beyond the walls. On 30% read power it took us 2 and a half hours to count the entire store, while the same count using Nedap’s Virtual Shielding™ (patent pending) takes 25 minutes, without the need to physically shield our store” Eastwood says.

Fast implementation by self-deployment

Superdry has started the rollout process and is scheduled to be finished by October 2019 using Nedap’s self-deployment methodology. This methodology enables Superdry to deploy at a fast pace, using existing in-house training and roll out infrastructure and fits with the retailer’s ambitions to master the technology.

America Today selects Nedap’s RFID solution

First RFID rollout on the Dutch retail market

Fashion retailer America Today, part of Coolinvestments, has decided to implement Nedap’s !D Cloud RFID software at its 69 stores in the Benelux countries to structurally raise stock accuracy and, as a result, guarantee product availability. The rollout is planned for the second half of 2019.

Looking for the business case
In the autumn of 2018, America Today started a pilot together with Nedap in 3 stores, to investigate whether there was actually sufficient basis for a business case. During the course of the pilot, a weekly stock count was performed using the !D Cloud software and a RFID handheld reader, which resulted in an improvement in stock accuracy from 75% on average to 98%.

Jonathan Kahn, CFO of America Today, explains: “We realised that our stock accuracy was going to be a huge bottleneck for our omnichannel ambitions. That is why we started investigating, together with Nedap, whether we had a business case, and it turned out that we actually had one. We opted to follow the GS1 standards, so as to offer the cooperation with all our Supply Chain partners more opportunities in the future. We are fully convinced that RFID will be a great help to us in gaining more insight into and control of our stock.”

Arjan Pruiksma, Business Developer at Nedap Retail, adds: “We are very pleased that America Today has become the first clothing retailer in the Netherlands to implement RFID with Nedap. Similarly to other retailers, America Today does not have reliable stock data, which prevents it from truly integrating its stores and online channels. We are really looking forward to starting this RFID journey together.”

Stock accuracy with RFID
Nedap’s !D Cloud software suite is a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution which was especially developed for the retail sector. The software provides insight into stock levels and the exact location of each item. This also provides the basis for omnichannel concepts such as Click & Collect and Ship-from-Store. Kahn: “Our biggest driver is omnichannel, but a technology like RFID really tempts you to do everything at once. We opted to place our initial focus on maximising results with the lowest possible level of complexity. The first results are very promising, and the stores are enthusiastic as well. We cannot wait to get started.”

Celio selects Nedap’s !D Cloud software for large-scale RFID roll-out

Nedap today announced that the French menswear retailer Celio has selected Nedap’s !D Cloud software for the RFID roll-out to their 750 stores across Europe. The full roll-out takes place over a period of less than 10 months and will be completed in November 2018.

Nedap’s !D Cloud software suite is a Software-as-a-Service solution specifically developed for retail RFID applications, giving retailers the quickest route to implement RFID and improve their in-store stock accuracy to over 98%. The real-time item-level insights into the stock levels and the exact location of each item is also the solid foundation to successfully introduce Omni channel concepts like Click & Collect.

David Teboul, Senior Vice President Global Retail at Celio explains: “We are a multinational, multi-sourcing, multi-channel retail company, which means that every change in the market place is multiplied. The evolution towards true Omni channel retailing is really exciting, but it also means that we needed to make a ‘quantum leap’ in stock accuracy to bring visibility to the sales environment. Using !D Cloud, we can offer a better shopping experience, because by the end of 2018, our customers can decide when, where and how they want to shop our brand and get the product delivered with the same quality experience.”

At first, Celio focusses on raising the in-store stock accuracy by using RFID for goods receiving and weekly inventory counts in the stores. For this, Celio uses the !D Cloud software, in combination with Zebra mobile RFID readers, which feeds accurate stock data back in Celio’s ERP system from SAP. Additionally, the point-of-sale is integrated with !D Cloud to track sales and returns and use RFID for electronic article surveillance to prevent losses and enable full item-level visibility in the store.

Teboul adds: “Next to the right RFID features, we were also looking for a user-friendly solution and the feedback that we are getting from the stores is very positive. The acceptance and enthusiasm from our store teams is very high, because the solution helps them to provide better service.”

Nedap introduces 3rd iSense Lumen antenna

In-store hardware for article surveillance

Today, Nedap announces the international launch of its iL33 Plexiglas article surveillance antenna for loss prevention in retail stores. The iL33 is the 3rd antenna in Nedap’s iSense Lumen product range, which was introduced earlier this year. It has an elegant design and delivers intuitive user feedback.

New Plexiglas design
The iL33 antenna easily blends in with a multitude of store designs with its combination of a Plexiglas body and metallic foot. The transparent design makes the antenna an unobtrusive element in the store entrance while the light effects are reinforced in case the alarm goes off. Additional sensors for customer counting and metal detection are fully integrated in the design.

Hilbert Dijkstra, Product Manager at Nedap Retail, comments: “We always strive to make loss prevention a natural part of the store design and the store processes. The new Lumen antenna is a great addition to our iSense Lumen product range. It truly reflects our design and functionality ambitions with its elegant looks and multiple alarm options for a variety of events.”

Intuitive user feedback
In line with the other iSense Lumen antennas, the iL33 antenna offers different light and sound effects, which enables store employees to react more effectively to an alarm. The multi-colored lights and state-of-the-art speakers notify the store staff about the cause and urgency of specific events, such as incoming and outgoing RF alarms, metal detection alarms and ‘wrong way’ detection to prevent that the store entrance is used as an exit.

Calzedonia Group selects Nedap for global EAS roll-out

Stores to be equipped with Nedap’s RFID-ready loss prevention solution

Groenlo, the Netherlands — January 11, 2016

The Italian fashion retailer Calzedonia Group has selected Nedap as solution provider for security solutions such as electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems, video surveillance and intrusion detection systems. The multi-year contract encompasses the supply and installation of RF EAS hardware and consumables for loss prevention purposes. The first step entails the roll-out of EAS systems to about 50 Tezenis and Intimissimi stores. Worldwide, Calzedonia has around 4000 stores across 40 countries and the first installations were already completed in the last quarter of 2015.

Shrink reduction & future-readiness
After extensive field-testing of different EAS suppliers, Calzedonia selected Nedap’s EAS solution because of its reliable detection performance, easy connectivity and the future-proof RFID upgrade path, which makes it possible to upgrade to RFID technology in the future without the need for major additional hardware investments. All connected systems deliver real-time insights into the system and store performance for monitoring and benchmarking.
